Waverley Abbey

Waverley Abbey was the first Cistercian abbey to be founded in Britain.
It is located near a beautiful riverside meadow and in a peaceful valley by the river Wey, two miles south of Farnham, Surrey.
In 1128 William Giffard, Bishop of Winchester, first granted 60 acres of arable land and pasture for the foundation of the abbey.
The ghost of a monk that was hung drawn and quarterd is said to roam the grounds searching for his remains.
